Bank of Earth
2024, Fictional currency, print,
Currency of the Future, Bank of England Museum, London

Bank of Earth imagines a fictional currency for a future in which monetary value has disappeared.

Designed to be issued 100, 200, or more years from now, the currency exists in a world where humanity has been freed from economic constraints. It cannot be stolen, counted, or lost because it holds no monetary worth. Rather than representing credit, it symbolises the intrinsic value of life on Earth. Each note carries an original poem written by the artist, tracing money through survival, security and exchange before arriving at a simple proposition: that life itself is the only value we need. Bank of Earth asks what currency might become once money is no longer necessary.
