Minori Murata is an artist working between London and Tokyo. Her practice spans moving image, installation and participatory practice, examining how systems of value, labour and collective belief organise contemporary life. Drawing on ant societies as a metaphor for human systems, alongside alternative economies and worldbuilding, she creates immersive worlds and develops fictional ecologies where desire, circulation and other ways of living can be imagined, performed and inhabited.

Growing up near the Tama River in Tokyo before rapid urban transformation reshaped the area, Murata moved between rivers, forests, department store toy sections and game worlds. These environments were experienced not as opposites but as connected microcosms, where nature, entertainment and virtual space continuously overlapped. This sensibility continues to inform the worlds and systems that emerge throughout her work.

Murataʼs work has been presented internationally at exhibitions and festivals including Currency of the Future at the Bank of England Museum (London), EASTEAST at the Museum of Science Tokyo, and Digital Art in the City at MMMAD Festival (Madrid).
Since 2020, Murata has led HYPE FREE WATER, a collective exploring the relationship between climate change and urban life.

蟻の集団行動と人間の社会構造を重ね合わせながら、価値・労働・共同幻想がどのように人間の営みを形づくるのかを探究している。映像、インスタレーション、参加型の実践を横断しながら、人間の欲望や社会の循環を描写し、オルタナティブな生態系を作ることを目指している。

都市開発によって大きく姿を変える以前の東京・二子玉川周辺で育ち、川や森、商店街、デパートのおもちゃ売り場、ゲームの世界を行き来しながら過ごした。自然、娯楽、仮想空間は重なり合うひとつの小宇宙として経験され、その感覚は現在も作品を通して立ち現れる世界や表現の基盤となっている。

過去の作品は、ロンドンのイングランド銀行ミュージアムで開催された「Currency of the Future」、東京・科学技術館で開催された「EASTEAST」、スペイン・マドリードのMMMAD Festival「Digital Art in the City」など、国内外の展示やフェスティバルで発表されている。
また、気候変動と都市生活の関係を探るアートコレクティブ「HYPE FREE WATER」を2020年より主宰する。
